CalcuCloser vs Gong: a Gong alternative for teams that want coaching, not recordings
The short answer
If you want every call recorded, transcribed and analysed across a large organisation, Gong is built for that. If you want your reps to change how they actually sell, without recording anyone, CalcuCloser is built for that instead.
Gong shows you what happened on the call. CalcuCloser coaches the rep on what to do next: after every call, and every day.
What Gong does well
Gong is a revenue intelligence platform. It records and transcribes sales calls and meetings, analyses them, and adds deal tracking and forecasting on top. For a large organisation that wants a searchable record of every customer conversation, it is a strong choice.
Teams usually start looking for an alternative for one of these reasons:
- Recording changes the conversation. Every call needs consent, and some reps and buyers talk differently once they know they are recorded.
- Nobody has time to watch. Managers end up with hours of recordings and coach from the few they get to.
- Dashboards don't change behavior. A score tells a rep what went wrong last week. It doesn't tell them what to do differently on Thursday.
- It is priced for enterprise. Annual contracts and a platform fee are hard to justify for a team of 20.
What CalcuCloser does differently
Coaching after every call, with no recording
After a call, the rep talks to Miibu, the AI sales coach, for about two minutes, by voice or text. If the company already transcribes its calls and its policy allows sharing them, the rep can give Miibu the transcript instead. Miibu logs the deal and coaches the rep on their own numbers. That conversation stays private to the rep. The sales leader sees the numbers and the patterns across the team, never the coaching conversation. Because CalcuCloser records nothing and the manager reads nothing, reps tell Miibu what really happened, and the data is honest.
It tells reps what to focus on today
CalcuCloser is not only used after calls. Miibu tells each rep which deals to focus on today and the one thing to do in each. The forecast is built deal by deal, weighted by how that rep has actually been selling lately, and deals nobody has touched in 45 days are listed separately so they stop inflating the number.
Each rep's performance is broken into small pieces: close rate, show rate, deal value, cycle length, commission. A rep can see exactly where they are losing money, for example a show rate that is leaking, and Miibu tells them what to change.
Behavior change, not another scorecard
Two reps can skip the same discovery question for completely different reasons. One has never learned how to ask it. The other knows exactly how, but hesitates when the buyer challenges their expertise. On a scorecard they look the same. They need different coaching: the first needs the skill, the second needs practice in that exact situation.
That is the idea CalcuCloser is built around. The Roleplay Hub shows what a rep can do when they practice, against buyers built from their own lost deals. Their real deals show what they do under pressure. Miibu works on the gap between the two. When the same objection keeps costing a rep deals, Miibu suggests a five-minute roleplay on exactly that.
Coaching is based on what the rep and their deals actually show, not on guesses about how someone feels.
Side by side
| Gong | CalcuCloser | |
|---|---|---|
| Core job | Record and analyse calls | Coach the rep after every call and every day |
| Call recording | Yes, the core of the product | Never. Reps can paste an existing transcript if company policy allows |
| Built first for | Managers and RevOps | The rep, with team patterns for the leader |
| Daily focus for reps | Deal boards for managers | Which deals to work on today, one action each |
| Forecast | Gong Forecast, sold as an add-on | Built in, deal by deal, weighted by each rep's recent performance |
| Practice | Coaching on recorded calls | Roleplay Hub with buyers built from the rep's own lost deals |
| Pricing | Not published. Third-party estimates: about $1,300 to $1,900 per user per year, plus a mandatory platform fee of about $15,000 to $30,000 a year for teams of 50 to 250 users ($5,000 to $10,000 under 50 users). Annual contracts, paid upfront | $59 per seat a month for teams, $69 a month solo, first month free, no card |
| Best fit | Large organisations that want a recorded library of every conversation | Teams of 10 to 250 reps that want behavior change without recording |
Gong pricing estimates from RaftLabs, based on procurement data from Vendr and Claap. Gong does not publish its prices, so a real quote depends on seats, contract length and negotiation.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Gong if you run a large sales organisation, you want every customer conversation recorded and searchable, and you have the budget and the RevOps team to use it.
Choose CalcuCloser if you lead a team of 10 to 250 reps, you want each rep to know what to work on today and to actually change how they sell, and you would rather not record anyone.
You can try CalcuCloser with your own team for a month, free and without a card, at calcucloser.velisi.io. Or book 20 minutes with me and I'll show you what it would look like for your team.
